Castles are incredible structures. The subjects of fairytale, folklore and legend, these fortified structures provide an amazing window back into our nation’s royal and military history. In this KS1 History workshop, your pupils will take a trip back in time to discover common features found across England’s earliest-known castles. What did they look like? How were they made? Together with your One Day facilitator, discover more about life during the medieval times when castle-building was at its peak!

- Examine the layout of castles, learning associated key words
- Discover the people you would see in medieval castles and the roles they played in society
- Understand how castles were built and used
- Explore ideas and feelings through role play, voice and drama
