Why YOU Should Put On Your Dancing Shoes!

I’m a dancer, and despite having much happier feet since working at the One Day offices, I still have a great love for dance. I think the arts are extremely important for all kinds of reasons – enjoyment being right up there as one of the main ones! But beyond that, there are huge benefits to dance. I think it should be available to everyone (especially children) – that’s why I work at One Day!

Dance is a fantastic way to express creativity and learn without having to sit at a desk, putting pen to paper. Not to mention great exercise and good for our mental health too! So, it is important that all of us have the opportunity to give it a try. Even better; if we get to try from a young age whilst having fun with friends at school.

‘Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun.’ – Randy Pausch

The urge to dance is within everyone, even if it just consists of tapping your two left feet. I don’t know anyone who would stay still when they hear their favourite tune blasting on the radio. The best thing about dance (like the rest of the creative arts) is that there are no rules. As long as you are moving, you’re dancing! There are so many styles, there’s bound to be one to suit everyone.

Dance is universal and can take you right across the globe without the need to learn a different language. All you need is some music and an empty space and you’re good to go! Whether it’s shaking those tail feathers in Dance Carnival Brazil, twirling those Chinese Ribbons or tapping to the Flamenco sounds – you can learn about how our friends across the globe like to bust the moves (and have a go yourself!).
