Going The Extra Mile For charity!

On Saturday night, I had the pleasure to be involved in a ‘Pasta Party’ Charity Night in aid of the Brathay Trust. Once again, I found myself representing One Day on stage, kicking my legs up high to the Can-Can music! We were asked back following our successful ‘French Night/Tour de France’ performance at the NSPCC fundraiser in summer.

Unlike the NSPCC, I didn’t initially know much about Brathay Trust, but I soon discovered that it is a charity with the mission to improve the life chances of children and young people, by inspiring them to engage positively in their communities.

Of course, this struck a cord with me right away. Their tag line is ‘Inspiring Young People to Succeed’ – and I thought just how similar these aims are to our mission here at One Day. They recognise that children and young people face many challenges in their day to day lives and they work with some of the most vulnerable and ‘hard-to-reach’, helping them to develop the confidence, motivation and skills that they need to unlock their potential.

I was lucky enough to meet many of the young people who joined us from the Bradford Youth Centre. They also got up on stage and played music, sang (brilliantly) and generally inspired the crowd through their positivity and wonderful personalities.

The lady who organised this fabulous event is Kate McIntyre. In May, she is going to be running 10 marathons in 10 days for this brilliant charity. We think she’s totally bonkers of course, as the 262-mile Brathay ’10 in 10′ is regularly described as ‘the UK’s ultimate endurance running event’. Ouch! But there couldn’t be a much better cause.

Brathay Trust is the latest charity  we’re backing! If you’d like to support Kate, you can find her Just Giving page here. I know she’d appreciate it.

Watch this space for details on our summer challenge, where the One Day team will be doing something quirky for our next Children’s charity. Please feel free to get in touch with any suggestions… and please be kind!
