Our Charities of Choice

Our brand new Loyalty Scheme is our way of saying “thank you!” to those schools who have booked numerous workshops with us year upon year. All of our schools are automatically enrolled onto the scheme, so every booking you make this academic year will take you one step closer to earning your rewards!

As well as rewarding schools with the possibility of winning free workshops and LIKEaBIKE balance bikes, we have selected four amazing charities to support; (local, national and international), as a way of giving something back to our schools and the wider community!

If you reach Bronze level by Summer 2016, by booking 5 workshops with us, we will donate £25 to your favourite out of our selected charities. By booking 10 workshops, you will reach Silver level and we will increase the donation to £50, and by booking 15 workshops and reaching Gold level, it is increased to £75! Below you can find some snippets of information about these amazing charities and why we have chosen to support them…

Unicef

‘Syria is one of the most dangerous places on Earth to be a child’. At One Day we have selected to support Unicef in their continuous hard work to provide aid and support to those whose lives have been devastated by warfare, which has now affected over 14 million Syrian children. With thousands of families travelling to other parts of Europe in an attempt to seek refuge, donations made to Unicef’s Syrian appeal pay to help keep child refugees safe by providing warm clothing, clean water and food. Last year, thanks to Unicef, ‘more than 2.8 million children received essential education supplies and more than 900,000 children received psychological care and support’- amenities which many of us take for granted. Donations mean that these vulnerable children are protected from unspeakable violence and are granted their basic human rights. Visit the website for more details on Unicef’s Syria appeal.

NSPCC

NSPCC help keep ‘one million children safe from abuse and neglect’ each year, which inevitably affords them hope and the opportunity of a better life. Here at One Day, with Anti-Bullying Week coming up in the week beginning 16th November 2015, we are particularly supportive of NSPCC’s ‘Share Aware’ campaign, which coincides with our current focus on E-Safety and Cyber Bullying. ‘Share Aware’ aims to help your child stay safe on the Internet when social networking and gaming – aspects of the web which are often hidden from parents and can hugely encompass a child’s life; NSPCC have found that ‘almost a quarter of 11 and 12 year-olds with a social networking profile experienced something that upset them in the last year’. They have therefore teamed up with O2 and launched an online safety helpline to which parents and families can turn for advice on all sorts of E-Safety issues, in order to help keep children safe online. Their website also features some useful information for parents!

Break

Break is a registered charity based in Norfolk, whose main vision is to encourage ‘children, young people and families to reach their full potential and shape their own futures in a safe and creative environment’. Break’s primary focus is to protect vulnerable children, whilst also providing a range of specialist residential and community based services for young people and families across East Anglia. Here at One Day, we have chosen to support Break, in conjunction with our Loyalty Scheme, as they positively transform the lives of many young people by providing short–term homes, care and support for vulnerable, disabled and traumatised children who may be either at risk, or require extra support at home. Break’s Moving On Team walk alongside vulnerable young people and help them when it comes to making choices regarding education, careers and accommodation; essentially supporting them in their transition into adulthood. Martin House

Martin House is a children’s hospice located in Wetherby, Yorkshire, which provides family led care for children with life-limiting illness. As a local charity, we are honoured to be supporting Martin House as they enable children with life shortening conditions to enjoy the best quality of life in a loving and fun environment. They recognise and embrace the importance of family, which is manifested in their offer of accommodation to parents and siblings, allowing families to spend invaluable time together and therefore providing support to each individual along their journeys. By not solely supporting the ill children themselves, but by also helping the parents with their care, Martin House are there to ‘keep [families] strong’ and create the family memories ‘treasured for a lifetime’. Emilia was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition at just 10 days old. Her parents became sleep deprived from caring for her through the night – I wasn’t worried about me, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to stay awake and hear Emilia struggle and be able to help her. I just couldn’t be the Mummy I needed to be”. Martin House enabled them to be the parents they wanted to be by simply granting them a good night’s sleep. You can read Emilia’s story here, or for more information, you can visit their website.
