Last week, we braced the (extremely) cold weather to support Yorkshire’s most recent sporting event – the Tour de Yorkshire. Team One Day was out in full force, sign and all, to cheer on this year’s athletes taking part in the three day long event!
Following the success of the Grand Depart for the Tour de France back in 2014 the Tour de Yorkshire sees cyclist from all around the world race on numerous different routes around Yorkshire. Stage 1 saw the race go past the One Day office en route to Wetherby.
Sir Bradley Wiggins was one of the many taking part in the competition however we unfortunately did not get a glimpse of those famous side burns, which isn’t surprising as the cyclists can reach speeds of around 41 km/h.
All weekend supporters were out in full force to welcome the cyclists back onto Yorkshire soil. The streets were lined with spectators and the Yorkshire rose flags were out in their thousands. Across the weekend over 2 million fans embraced the Yorkshire weather to show their support.
After a long weekend of cycling it is now all over for another year but we are already looking forward to next year’s race! It won’t be on Yorkshire ground next time around, but we will also be tuning in to see who will be sporting the yellow jersey at this year’s Tour de France in July.
We hope this sees the beginning of a long summer filled with bike rides, so… “on yer bike!”
Love Naomi and the One Day Team. x
