Something SPECIAL for SCOTTISH WEEK!

Our Scottish team have developed a wonderful mixed bag of creative goodies, ready for your school to delve into! Why not take a local trip – actually just to your school hall, and find out the secrets of mysterious Edinburgh. Or if you’d prefer you can hang out with Hamish the Hairy Haggis and friends. Do you fancy meeting our wee local furry hero Bobby at Grey friars Kirk? Or do you dare embark on an exciting expedition to find Nessie on your voyage up Loch Ness?

Have a wee look at the workshops we have on offer ready, for our lovely celebration of Scottish literature, culture and heritage!

THIS WAY TO EDINBURGH…

“Ahm away up town for some messages d’ye want tae chum me?”

Did you know Edinburgh began as a fort, back in the Middle ages?

Do you know whose pickled skin became a sought-after souvenir?

Why it’s ‘alright’ to spit on the high street?

Or that if Robert Louis Stevenson had never written “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”, there might be no big, green superhero called the Hulk?

These are just a few of the exciting facts we will learn about the City! This workshop explores the Capital’s exciting history with all the old town secrets and nasty bits left in! Plot your path to the past as we visit the City’s favourite haunts and jaunts! Climb up to the castle for the tales of reckless raids and then we’ll hit the High Street for a whole host of historical horrors.

Join Mrs McKitty, her fellow lassies and kilt-wearing pals, who were afraid of nothing and no one, in this light hearted and delightful creative drama exploration of Edinburgh!

“Two young children, bored of sightseeing, happen upon the famous drinking fountain statue. They then search out the nearby churchyard where they hear Bobby’s story. It’s simply and tenderly told by a gardener in the churchyard, where Bobby watched over his master’s grave for 14 years!”

Perhaps you already know the story of Greyfriars Bobby, the wee Skye terrier, who belonged to a policeman in Edinburgh more than one hundred and fifty years ago – and who was as loyal in death as in lift to his caring master. He was so famous that it’s said that Queen Victoria paid him a special visit. But until now, not all the facts of this often told story have been known.

It’s been made into a movie, and written about, certainly, many times! But now your pupils can bring this wonderful true story to life through creative expression & drama in your school hall!

Our One Day Drama workshop follows a beautiful, visual and physical story. Alongside our professional Theatre Director, the children will use creative workshop techniques to create the action and build the story, together… and all this punctuated with a wee performance for peers and parents.  This is a wonderful yet simple story, that allows copious amounts of room for writing work and further development in the classroom.

A UNIQUE ALTERNATIVE FOR YOUR BURNS TOPIC. REPLACE A TYPICAL BURNS TALE AND HELP YOUR CHILDREN UNDERSTAND BURNS NIGHT WITH SOMETHING FUN AND UNIQUE!

Hamish the Hairy Haggis lives in the Highlands of Scotland! Once a year, however, it is the Hairy Haggis hunting season and the Haggis Bashers are out to catch him!

Hamish the Hairy Haggis is an exciting creative workshop developed to imaginatively engage young minds and to plant a positive, vibrant and energetic atmosphere in your classroom! Our sessions require full participation and interaction, yet also allow pupils to individually build in confidence. The children will use creative workshop techniques alongside our professional director to build the story together, culminating in a wee performance.

Our One Day Drama workshops are a fantastic way to develop teamwork and confidence, and helps with concentration and memory retention. Here we can deliver the project in a few different structures – suitable to your requirements.

NO SUCH THING AS NESSIE!

Finlay is going on a Nessie hunt, while visiting his Gran, who lives beside Loch Ness. Finlay is determined to get proof that Nessie, the famous Loch Ness Monster, really does exist!!! Finlay’s Gran might believe him, but his big sister Sarah keeps telling him there is no such thing. Until they spot a monster-ish shape under the water – there’s no such thing as Nessie… or is there?

Travel to the shores of Loch Ness with One Day Creative’s bright, playful and creative interactive drama workshop, which explores the Scottish landscape through an imagination-hugging, monster-hunting story!

“This is a sweet little workshop of this weird and wonderful Scottish mystery tale. It made for some interesting discussions with my children on whether you can believe in things that you have not seen and of course they now want to go on a Loch Ness Monster hunt!”

Like what you see!? We would love to come and visit your school. Give our Edinburgh office a call on 0131 2080 292 for more information or to book dates.
