*NEW* British Black History Workshop for KS2

As we look ahead to Black History Month in October, we’re delighted to announce a brand new British Black History workshop for KS2 pupils.

This joins our existing selection of Black History workshops for primary schools – see more information on each below.

British Black History workshop

Created by award-winning writer, Marjorie Morgan, and led by a One Day drama facilitator, this History-rich session invites your KS2 pupils to discover the many ways in which Black Britons have shaped the nation we live in today. From royal trumpeters to Roman soldiers to Olympic swimmers! Join us to celebrate the contributions of British Black people and explore those stories not always represented in history books.

These one or two-hour workshops journey through the annals of British Black History, reaching all the way back to the 13th century. Every workshop includes a FREE follow-up school Resource Pack, including creative writing prompts, discussion stimuli and group drama activities. View workshop page here.

Other Black History workshop titles

Other popular Black History titles available to primary schools include:

  • Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks: Black History, KS1 – Meet two Black History heroes, Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks, and bring the achievements of these significant figures to life.
  • Black History, KS2 – Explore the civil rights movement in the United States, plus the influence of key Black History figures including Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela.
  • Kingdom of Benin, KS2 – From 900 to 1897AD, Benin in West Africa prospered. Journey into this historic kingdom to discover the Edo people’s rituals and way of life.

What’s a One Day workshop like?

A great question! Our workshops span one-hour, two-hour and full-day options, depending on the workshop. This means we can usually work with up to four classes in a single day.

  • Exciting primary school workshops, delivered right in your school hall
  • Combine drama, discussion and on-your-feet activities to mark Black History, legacy and achievements
  • Led by a professional drama facilitator with unique options for KS1 & KS2
  • Additional video workshops also available via One Day Videos, including Rosa Parks, Kingdom of Benin and Mary Seacole

“One Day created something truly wonderful in just one day. Children learnt about Black History Month in a creative and interactive way. The children performing enjoyed the day and some of our ‘quiet’ children came out of their shell! [They’ve] since gone away and researched their own Black History/Diversity project!” – Assistant Head Teacher, Leeds
