Today marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week 2019 and its theme of “Change Starts With Us”. All week, schools around the country will explore themes related to bullying. What is bullying? What does it look like? How can it affect us?
Conversation leads the way to change, and the ultimate goal is to unite against bullying in all its forms. We are stronger together!
By choosing this year’s theme, “Change Starts With Us”, Anti-Bullying Alliance puts each of us at the centre of this conversation. We all have the power, and the responsibility, to enact change. Here, some of our lovely One Day team make their pledges on what they can do to fight bullying, and show how even small changes can make the biggest difference.
“We ask people how they are everyday but do we really listen to the answer? Listening and hearing how someone is feeling is important in sharing and being able to help one another.”
“Bullying is something that everyone can do their bit to stop happening. If you see that something isn’t right and stand up for someone who you think is getting bullied, you’ve immediately made the situation better. And you will give other people the courage to stand up too. ”
“We never truly know what is going on in someone else’s life. But if we take a second to think a bit more deeply about other people and what they might be experiencing, we may have a better understanding of them. If we can empathise with others then we can offer kindness, help or even just start a conversation.”
“Even a small gesture of kindness can make someone’s day, or have an even bigger impact. Remember how amazing it feels when someone is unexpectedly kind or generous to you? Give someone else the gift of that feeling and make the world just that little bit better.”
Perhaps you could use Anti-Bullying Week 2019 to think about how you and your class could make a stand against bullying and help to create a safe environment? Let us know your ideas!
