Being well groomed? Do you know the signs?

England, Scotland, Wales

New

Online grooming may be hard for parents to recognise because it can happen when children are supposedly safe at home. Also, groomers may specifically warn children not to talk to anyone about it.

There are a number of signs to be aware of and our workshop will take parents through some of the ways to spot the signs at home and how we can talk to our young people about them.

  • Have you noticed they want to spend more and more time on the internet?
  • Have they become secretive about who they are talking to online and what sites they visit?
  • Do they switch screens when you come near the computer?
  • Possessing items – electronic devices or phones – have they got any you haven’t given them?
  • Heard them using sexual language you wouldn’t expect them to know?
  • Noticed they have become emotionally volatile?

These sessions can be delivered as hour-long sessions, or can be extended slightly depending on number of attendees.

This workshop works well in conjunction with either our “Don’t Talk to Strangers” for KS2 and/or “Fake Me Out” for KS3 and KS4 workshops.
