Rabbie Burns – “Wee, Sleeket, Cow’rin, Tim’rous Beastie”

Five Years after Robert Burns died, a group of his friends got together to remember him and his wonderful poetry. This tradition became established and now, every year on his birthday, Scots all round the world celebrate Burns Night. Let’s find out more about Burns’ life, and the poetry that made him so famous!

Your class will…

  • Explore the timeline of Robert Burns’ life
  • Explore Burns Night traditions
  • Explore the Scottish language used
  • Have a great day!

Option 1 : Creative Play workshops are short and sweet, designed to be a burst of creativity to keep children engaged. As the sessions are usually only an hour long, we can work with four classes across the school day.

Option 2 (P4-7 only): One Day Drama packages offer a full day workshop led by an experienced facilitator who collaborates with pupils in order to explore the topic through drama. The focus of a One Day Drama workshop is always the content and learning, but we do offer the opportunity for an informal peer to peer sharing session, where the children can share what they have done throughout the day. This isn’t necessarily a performance, but an opportunity for children to take ownership of the experience. They can share their learning with their peers, or if you wanted, parents.

This workshop includes props and accessories to aid learning

Tell us more about your classes knowledge of the topic in advance of the workshop so the content we deliver can hit the spot!

"Our P6’s have just taken part in the Rabbie Burns One Day Drama project. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and it was particularly pleasing to see even the least confident pupils have their moment to shine. The hard work by the co-ordinator led to a fantastic whole school performance that linked into our Curriculum work perfectly. The children enjoyed it so much that they invited our parents in to see them perform it for a second time. "
