Rabbie Burns – “Wee, Sleeket, Cow’rin, Tim’rous Beastie”

Five years after Robert Burns died, a group of his friends got together to remember him and his wonderful poetry. This tradition became established and now, every year on his birthday, January 25th, Scots all round the world celebrate the wonderful achievements of Rabbie on his very own 'Burns Night'.

One Day present this exceptionally fun and humorous drama project, for wee folk to celebrate the life and times of Robert Burns.

Together we will delve into a traditional Scottish feast and learn about the history of Scotland at that time. We will explore Rabbie Burns’s unique life and identify how he became one of the most famous figures in Scottish Literary history.

Children in primary 4-7 will have the opportunity to work with one of our highly trained professional theatre directors, exploring key themes, historical figures and events, working towards a fun and energy-packed performance for an audience at the end of the school day.

One of our co-founders hails from Edinburgh and therefore Scotland is in our DNA. We cherish Scottish history and want to add value to classroom teaching by giving children all over Scotland a unique, creative and fun opportunity – and one that they will remember – to celebrate Scotland, for years to come!

One Day will work with your pupils through a dynamic and theatrical One Day Creative workshop with our fully trained professional director. Your One Day Drama project will culminate in a highly engaging performance by the pupils involved. Our One Day director and your budding thespians will explore a diverse range of key themes such as enhanced creative teaching of a chosen topic/issue, enhanced speaking and listening skills, improved confidence, concentration, teamwork, understanding of theatre skills and oh yes… let’s not forget bags and bags of fun.

One Day Creative Education provide energetic workshops that your pupils will never forget! Our workshops are suitable for pupils whatever their academic ability and provide the perfect stimulus for further development to take back into your classroom!

"Our P6’s have just taken part in the Rabbie Burns One Day Drama project. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and it was particularly pleasing to see even the least confident pupils have their moment to shine. The hard work by the co-ordinator led to a fantastic whole school performance that linked into our Curriculum work perfectly. The children enjoyed it so much that they invited our parents in to see them perform it for a second time. "
